(I)GCSE RESULTS 2016

Following record results in both 2014 and 2015, this year’s Charterhouse (I)GCSE results continue to be extremely pleasing: 45% of subjects taken were graded at A* and the figure for A* and A grades combined was 76%.

All of the Year 11 pupils at Charterhouse take a minimum of nine (I)GCSEs: nine pupils this year gained straight A* grades and 47 achieved all A*s and As.

James Kazi, Deputy Headmaster (Academic), acknowledged the efforts of the boys and their determination; he also paid tribute to the leadership of Emily Fox (Master of the Under School) and the beaks and staff who had supported the boys as they prepared for their examinations: “The boys have worked very hard under the guidance of Miss Fox (Master of the Under School) and their beaks in to produce a very fine crop of results. They have every right to be very proud of all their achievements and this should set them up very well for their studies in the Specialists”.

Sixth Form Examination Results

Charterhouse is again celebrating a splendid set of examination results with 92% of Cambridge Pre-U examinations taken awarded Distinction or Merit grades. Forty-eight pupils achieved Distinctions (or their A level equivalent) in all subjects taken; sixteen achieved the equivalent of A level A* grades in all their subjects and, of those, three achieved the absolute top grade available in the examination that they sat (either all D1s or A*s).

The IB Diploma Programme results were extremely strong, too and the highest to date: 80% of grades awarded were either 6s or 7s (a 7 being the highest) and almost 50% of the cohort achieved 40 points or more (typically seen as an average score for Oxbridge entry). Three pupils were awarded 44 points, which is tantalisingly close to the maximum of 45.

Delighted pupils from both courses of study are now celebrating securing their university places, including those pupils who have achieved their offers for Oxbridge entry as well as to leading US universities such as Chicago, NYU, Stanford and UPenn, as well as other top-flight international universities such as Hong Kong. Our Second Year Specialists have done extremely well, indeed.

Mr James Kazi – Deputy Headmaster (Academic) said that he had been “hugely impressed by the commitment of the pupils” and “the endeavour that they had shown in preparing themselves for the examinations”. In addition, he also paid tribute both to the teaching staff, for their superlative work in preparing pupils for the examinations, and the support that was provided by the whole of the Charterhouse community.
