The Charterhouse Combined Cadet Force took part in the Exmoor 30:30 Challenge on Saturday 17 October, to raise money for the Royal British Legion.
The event involves a 30 mile speed march across Exmoor with each team member carrying 30lbs of equipment across rough ground. Teams start before dawn in order to complete the march in daylight. The Charterhouse start time was 3.15am, which meant leaving the campsite shortly before 3am. The Exmoor weather was perfect for a long walk; cool and dry.
The team finished in 4th place with a time of 12 hours 32 minutes and raised £2,642 in sponsorship for the Royal British Legion.The team of six included Major Rupert Follet, Jon Tully (Officer in Charge of Royal Marine Section), pupils Charlie Sweeting, Harry Malmstrom, Ed Puckett and Oliver Norton (Year 13). In addition Flight Sergeant Lay supported the team by driving the minibus and acting as ‘base camp’.
