Review by Peter Wallace (Year 12):

A X1 v Sir William Borlaise Grammar School

On: Thursday 28 September

Venue: Bisham Abbey

Score: Won 2 - 1

This was a tight match in which the U16A Charterhouse team won with two well worked goals. Charterhouse spent a lot of the game on the front foot, keeping Sir William Borlaise in their half. Charterhouse started the scoring with a goal from Toby Duffen assisted by Sam Duffen. Shortly after Sir William Borlaise counter-attacked and broke through the defence, leaving their attacker in a one on one which he managed to score. The score at half time was a 1 - 1 draw.

Charterhouse began to move the ball around much more in the second half and dribbled up the right of the pitch, creating some good opportunities, but the number of defenders made it very difficult to convert these chances into goals. Good positioning by the forwards and midfielders meant Sir William Borlaise struggled to get the ball out of their half, and because of this they had very few chances in the second half. With Charterhouse on the ball so much chances were inevitable and late in the second half Toby Duffen took advantage of one of the chances to score, assisted again by Sam Duffen. Even though Charterhouse had the lead, with a few minutes left on the clock, they did not stop pressing Sir William Borlaise and kept attacking. In the final minute of the game Sir William Borlaise counter attacked but good defending by the whole team prevented a late equaliser.
